Ochota Biocentre scientist receives Ideas Plus grant
Dr Szymon Świeżewski from the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics in Warsaw, was among six scientists, which have been awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education the prestigious"Ideas Plus" grant for outstanding researchers. The winners will receive a total of more than 12 million PLN. The European Commission has launched a contest to recognise and reward women that have created outstanding innovations and developed their ideas from drawing board to the market. An international team of scientists have succeeded in mapping the genome of the potato. Polish partners included the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics (IBB PAS). The research paper was published on July 14, 2011, in Nature, the world's most cited interdisciplinary science journal.
